JOSEPHINE, TX (KTVT/CNN) - Texas rangers are investigating an officer-involved shooting in the town of Josephine.

Authorities said it happened at the town's city hall.

Investigators said Josephine police were tipped off that a person who caused a disturbance at city hall earlier in the week, was coming back.

When that person showed up, investigators said two officers commanded this person to drop the rifle but they refused and were shot.

They are lights that the town wasn't used to seeing, and Josephine residents Misty Miller and Vickie Clary are still in shock.

"It's just a little, quiet country town. Everybody sticks to themselves. Everybody knows everybody. This is weird. Nothing ever happens like this out here," Miller said.

"At first I just thought it was someone knocking on the door. So did she. She was like, 'somebody is knocking on the door," Clary said.

After they opened their door to squad cars, both of them soon realized it was much more serious.

The view from above showed a rifle on the ground near what neighbors identify as the city hall.

Miller, who can see the area from her home, said the gunfire was much deeper, and not the "pop" of a handgun.

"I'm glad one of these bullets didn't ricochet because that was a hefty gun," Miller said.

Collin County sheriff's deputies could be seen guarding the perimeter of the scene, while Texas rangers spent the bulk of their time moving in and out of the area, piecing it all together.

The suspect was in the hospital in serious condition.

The officers involved were not hurt, and there’s no word yet on the shooter's identity.
