Rep. Lois Frankel, Brightline to meet on safety

More talks on railway safety are planned for Monday after lawmakers in Tallahassee failed to enact on two bills introduced during the legislative session.

Treasure Coast lawmakers supported the bills but neither got sent to the governor for his approval. 

U.S. Rep. Lois Frankel will meet with mayors, the Palm Beach Transportation Planning Agency and Brightline about the steps they can take to enact policies.

Frankel had said Congress should be the one to enact change to protect people and the communities trains run through. 

Brightline, a high-speed passenger rail service between Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach began running in January. In the future rail service will expand to Miami and Orlando.

Since Brightline began operating, trains have struck and killed several people, some of those deaths were suicides police said.

Monday's meeting with Congresswoman Frankel is at 2:30 p.m. at the Mandel Library in West Palm Beach.
