MARTIN AND ST. LUCIE COUNTIES, Fla. -- Two wildfires have developed Friday afternoon, one in St. Lucie County and one in Martin County.
In St. Lucie county, both county and state firefighters are working a 15-acre fire off SE Van Kleff Avenue and SE Bakersfield Street.
According to the Florida Forest Service (FFS), the St. Lucie County Fire District has extensive hoses set up in the woods for suppression and a firefighting bulldozer is encircling the fire, building firebreaks to defend three homes that are currently threatened.
That fire is located about 3/10 of a mile from the Treasure Coast Square Mall near Club Med. FFS says the fire is moving southwest towards SE Montrose Lane.
In Martin County, firefighters are working a large brush fire in the area behind the Treasure Coast Square Mall in Jensen Beach near Stuart Point Apartments.
