High Tech Homes

High tech, jaw dropping, digital homes. You dream it, you can have it--if you have enough cash. People in our area are spending millions to turn their humble abodes into cutting edge entertainment destinations. Normally you wouldn't have a chance to see this stuff, but tonight here's your all access ticket to see what a little imagination and a lot of cash can do to your family room.

From the outside Todd Skelton's Wellington home is impressive, but the real show stopper is on the inside. This 15 person, leather seat home theatre is the heart of his home.

"We did build this house around the room we are sitting in and we got the room right we got the sound right then we put the rest of the house on it."

You don't just watch the movie. You feel it with the vibrations from the explosions on the screen, but this is only the beginning.

"This is the whole brain the system pretty much runs the house."

Todd is part of a growing number of homeowners willing to spend big bucks to turn their homes into high tech toys. In this house? 15 tv's with control panels in nearly every room. Yes they control the flat screens, but they also control everything else.

"So the lights will show will the lights are on you can control the lights and fans the air condition air condition control has four different zones."

And check this out: you can close doors and then watch it on the security cameras. Even the blinds have a mind of their own. The computer senses where the sun is at all times and adjusts them automatically.

Jeff Hoover owns Audio Advisors in West Palm Beach. He started out selling car stereos. Today he's turning homes into what could be a set for the next James Bond movie.

"We've done a number of project that are over a million dollars worth of electronics the largest one we've ever completed is 5 and a half million dollars."

It is addictive. We caught Todd with 2 new flat screens and this new dish ready to be installed into his already elaborate system. And like most, he's gotten a taste of the digital lifestyle and wants more.

"I really like the technology the ease of doing things at the push of a button and 50 different things happen."

And with new toys being developed everyday, the show never ends. It only gets better. And in most cases more expensive to stay on the cutting edge.

You don't have to be a millionaire to enjoy a good home theatre experience. More and more are installing smaller systems than what you just saw. Those are going for between 15 to 20 thousand dollars. It's still a lot. But it appears a lot of you are willing to pay it.
