Soldier missing after Fort Hood drill

Teams of soldiers and civilians are searching the rugged terrain of Fort Hood, Texas, Monday for a soldier missing since he set out on a solo navigation exercise three days ago.

Sergeant Lawrence Sprader was last heard from Friday evening, about an hour before he was supposed to have completed the six-hour navigation mission. In his last message, the 24-year-old said he'd reached a hard, paved road and wasn't able to give reference as to where he was located.

Colonel Diane Battaglia says "We think he got disoriented on the course and got misdirected."

Temperatures reached the low 90s yesterday and were forecast to do so again today, causing fear for his physical well being.
