WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A 10-year-old Port St. Lucie boy who weighed just 35 pounds when he knocked on a neighbor's door pleading for food is being treated for malnutrition.

Meanwhile, his mother is being held on child neglect charges. Kelleen Murray-Auguste told authorities the boy had been living with his father in Haiti until about a month ago, when the father dropped him off in Florida and left.

Police say she tried to feed the boy but he couldn't keep any food down. She said she didn't seek medical treatment because she doesn't have health insurance. Her other children showed no signs of malnutrition and neglect.

Authorities are also looking for the boy's father.

The child is now recovering.

The average weight for a 10-year-old boy is about 85 pounds.
