COPY-Cadbury pleads guilty to salmonella contamination

Associated Press - June 15, 2007 8:23 AM ET

BIRMINGHAM, England (AP) - Cadbury Schweppes has pleaded guilty to violating food and hygiene regulations after salmonella was found in some of its chocolates.

Cadbury recalled a number of its chocolate products last year after the contamination was discovered. The company says the recall cost at least $60 million.

The charges alleged that Cadbury put contaminated chocolates on the market, failed to promptly notify authorities and failed to identify the hazards posed by salmonella contamination.

Cadbury says it traced the problem to a leaky pipe at its factory in western England.
