COPY-Former first lady remains in hospital but fever down

Associated Press - June 25, 2007 4:33 PM ET

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Lady Bird Johnson's fever has subsided.

A family spokeswoman says the 94-year-old former first lady remains hospitalized but is "resting comfortably." Johnson was admitted to the Seton Medical Center in Austin, Texas, four days ago for a low-grade fever.

Her temperature was back to normal today and spokeswoman Elizabeth Christian says Johnson "had a good night." She says the family doesn't know when Johnson might be released.

Family members have been visiting Johnson, and Christian describes her as alert and communicating with facial expressions. A previous stroke left Johnson with difficulty speaking.

The widow of President Lyndon Johnson, Lady Bird has lived in the Austin area for decades.
