Celebrity Cartoon Art Auction
The celebrity art auction began in 1990, consisting of scribbled artwork from famous locals, usually obtained through word of mouth. Now celebrities are recruited internationally, giving ArtiGras the chance to raise large sums of money for their cause, and locals the chance to purchase something notable and unique.
The auctions benefit "Locks of Love", a local organization which provides hairpieces for disadvantaged children suffering hairloss due to illnesses such as Alopecia. Alopecia, not widely understood, is an autoimmune disorder which causes the body to attack it's own hair follicles resulting in unpredictable hair loss. It's onset is usually during childhood years - affecting a child's developing self-esteem. The hairpieces donated through Locks of Love help to alleviate that problem. This Artigras event alone has raised over $10,000 for this cause in the past.
Some of the celebrities who donated artwork this year were: Loni Anderson, Rosanna Arquette, Phil Collins, Bill Conti, Roma Downey, Jamie Farr, Sarah Jessica Parker, General Norman Schwarzkopf, Gary Trudeau, Kathleen Turner, Vanna White,Florence Henderson and Dear Abby.
