UPDATED (AP) - Scuba divers are getting ready for the annual fish count tomorrow at the St. Lucie Inlet Preserve State Park.
Key Largo-based Reef Environmental Education Foundation organizes the annual event that compiles fish surveys for researchers, advocacy groups and government agencies. The data is used to develop plans for stocking and managing fish populations.
Palm Beach County divers hope the event will also give them a chance to assess the health of the reef near the St. Lucie Inlet. Much of the coral there was bleached two years ago after polluted water from Lake Okeechobee was discharged into the St. Lucie River.
