COPY-Problems with Chinese snacks

Associated Press - July 3, 2007 3:23 AM ET

BEIJING (AP) - More blows for China's beleaguered food safety record.

Chinese inspectors have found dozens of children's snacks that failed food standards. they also have seized hundreds of bottles of fake human blood protein from hospitals.

The children's snacks contained excessive additives and preservatives.

None of the fake blood protein was used to treat patients. But China has struggled with recalls following the widespread sale of fake polio vaccines, vitamins and baby formula.

Chinese exports have come under global scrutiny since tainted pet food sickened or killed many dogs and cats in the United States. Fake toothpaste containing a potentially dangerous chemical also has turned up in this country.
