ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Stan Van Gundy last roamed an NBA sideline more than 18 months ago, when he coached his final game for the Miami Heat. He returns to the bench today when his new team, the Orlando Magic, opens summer league play.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - The Miami Heat gave Daequan Cook a simple challenge for the next week: Focus on nothing but basketball. The first-round draft pick from Ohio State gets his first taste of NBA play today when summer league play starts in Orlando.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Brian France walked through the FanZone at Daytona International Speedway without handlers or security. The NASCAR chairman seemed like just another face in the crowd. Few recognized the sport's most influential man, who was back at the track after a month away following the June fourth death of his father, former chairman Bill France Junior.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Florida Marlins fans tuning in to today's home run derby at the All-Star Game, take note -- Marlins third baseman Miguel Cabrera is out of the competition. Cabrera will miss the derby because of a jammed left shoulder. He was in the lineup yesterday for Florida's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, but didn't play. He was replaced by Mike Jacobs in the first inning.
