RIVERVIEW, Fla. (AP) - A five-hour stand-off outside a Riverview mobile home ended early this morning after the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office SWAT team shot and killed an armed man.
Neighbors alerted authorities last night after spotting William Best walking down the street with two guns. Best barricaded himself in the mobile home after police arrived. Authorities say he fired once out a window at deputies.
Police gassed the mobile home with pepper spray around one am. Authorities say that's when he came out armed with a shotgun and crawling toward the deputies.
SWAT team members told him to drop his weapon, and shot when he didn't. He died at the scene.
Two SWAT team members who fired at Best are on paid administrative leave pending an administrative review of the shooting.
