Deputy killed: Searching for suspect

Authorities are searching for the suspect who shot and killed a Broward County sheriff's deputy - the second shooting of a Broward County deputy this week.

A sheriff's office spokesman says Deputy Chris Reyka had seen two cars parked behind a store in Pompano Beach early Friday morning and became suspicious. As he got out of his patrol car, he was ambushed and shot multiple times.

Reyka was taken to the hospital, where he died.

The shooting comes just days after another deputy, Maury Hernandez, was shot in the head and injured Monday after a traffic stop. David Maldonado is charged in that shooting. The deputy was hospitalized in critical condition.

Reyka had been on the force for 18 years. He is survived by his wife and four children. The sheriff says Reyka has a son serving in the Marines who is scheduled to go to Iraq in two weeks.

Sheriff's officials are offering a $20,000 reward for information that leads to the killer's arrest.
