DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. (AP) - At least ten people are being treated after an explosion and fire tore apart a large section of their three-story apartment building in Deerfield Beach.
The blaze is out and firefighters continue to check through burnt wood and debris for any more victims. No fatalities have been confirmed, but the state fire marshal has requested dogs trained to search for cadavers and fire accelerants.
At least six people were seen being taken on stretchers to ambulances and fire rescue says about another five to eight are being treated for injuries such as smoke inhalation.
The explosion sparked the fire at about 5:30 a.m., but its cause is not yet known. There are propane tanks in the building and a natural gas line runs under a nearby road.
Nearly half the building's roof had collapsed.
