Wrong-way driver charged in fatal St. Petersburg crash

The man St. Petersburg police say drove head-on into another vehicle, killing one person after fleeing police, is charged with vehicular homicide.

Jail records say that 32-year-old Charles Hicks also faces two counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, one count of fleeing and eluding, one count of aggravated fleeing and eluding and one count of driving without a license.

Police say 22-year-old Steven Cornell was riding in his sister's car when Hicks crashed into them. Cornell died from his injuries.

Police say Hicks earlier drove his car at a police vehicle in a threatening manner and fled when the officer gave chase. Hicks ended up driving the wrong way on Interstate 275.
