Up close & personal with the star of "My Fair Lady"

What would make a woman reschedule her wedding? Maybe the opportunity to play someone she's idolize since she was a child.

"I loved the movie. I grew up on Audrey Hepburn. I own all her movies. She's always been an idol of mine. And never in a million years did I think I'd get to do this show on this caliber," says Dana DeLisa.

She is traveling the country playing Eliza Doolittle in Broadway Across America's "My Fair Lady".

But before the tour began, she tied the knot to her star cross lover. She played the role of Maria; he was Tony. She actually had to move up her wedding by a month since she got the part in "My Fair Lady".

And just as Eliza learned from Mr. Higgins, Dana is learning from a woman who played Eliza when she was her age.

"Working with someone like Sally Ann House, who was the first replacement after Julie Andrews on Broadway, and just being on stage with her, you're learning from such a brilliant performer like that."

Not only does Dana look like Audrey Hepburn as she dons her gown, hat and gloves...

"I have all her pictures from that time and from when she did the movie. It's shocking how similar you feel like you look."

... She also feels like her.

"I really try to center myself on the character. [I] think about where she comes from. What house she has just walked out of. What the weather is like. How her shoes would feel. All of that really centers me before I walk right out there on stage."

Dana then lead me backstage to show me her complete "My Fair Lady" wardrobe. (Click on the video to your top left).

The cast of "My Fair Lady" will be performing at the Kravis Center in downtown West Palm until Sunday. Visit kravis.org for ticket information.
