Pet Project: Meet Dusty

If laughter really is the best medicine, pets may be a close second.

Fox 29 shows you how Hospice of Palm Beach County is helping patients and pets form a loving bond.

Dusty, one very special great dane, is on a mission: Putting smiles on the faces of people seeking comfort in their final days at Hospice of Palm Beach County.

Dusty is one of 20 certified therapy dogs bringing smiles to people like Pat  Beaupre. She has been at hospice for about a week. Her husband, Joseph, has been by her side as often as possible. Here, she feels surrounded by love.

Hospice provides services for  patients diagnosed with any advanced illness. And some of Pat's most comforting moments are shared with the therapy dogs.

There are also five therapy cats.

Dusty is always ready to shake hands, accept a hug, offer compassion, anything it takes to make the day of his human friends a little bit easier.

And Dusty just won the Rookie Therapy Dog Award for the entire nation!

Hospice of Palm Beach County cares for about 1,100 people a day. It is celebrating 30 years in our community.
