Hundreds gathered Tuesday to mourn and celebrate the lives of two fallen officers.
Deputies Donta Manuel and Jonathan Wallace were Pahokee natives and graduates of Pahokee High. The school held a memorial service honoring the men.
The accident that killed the two deputies took place just a few miles from the school less than one week ago.
Bagpipes played as flag draped coffins for two heroes were carried into the Pahokee gymnasium.
The close-knit community came together still in a state of sadness. As they morn, this community marches on celebrating the lives of two Pahokee natives. And the loss of two spirited men who were honored by family, friends and strangers Tuesday night before being carried away in the arms of their brothers in law enforcement.
Meantime, some brighter news, the mayor of Pahokee announced a perpetual scholarship in the deputies names to be given to young people who want to enter law enforcement.
