UPDATED, Fluoride in water: Yea

Updated: Stuart voters decide to put fluoride in their drinking water. The votes are in, and 52 percent of voters voted "yes".

That's despite opposition from Stuart's mayor who is against fluoridation. He questions the safety.

But the State Department of Health recommends adding fluoride to prevent tooth decay.

Previously: Stuart voters will weigh in Tuesday on whether to put fluoride in the city's drinking water.

Over the weekend, Fox 29 received an e-mail from the mayor which reads the fluoride is "classified as a corrosive".

The mayor does not personally support the addition of fluoride, but says it is up to each individual to decide on the matter.
