Updated: The search for the Boca Town Center Mall murderer leads police to the bottom of a pond.

Desperate for evidence, investigators drained the pond behind the Home Depot in West Delray Beach hoping to find crucial clues.

Sheriff dive team members methodically search the pond just a few feet from where deputies found Randi Gorenberg's SUV which was abandoned last March. "Did they get a leak or something to tell them to come here?"

A good question from passerby Rose Rodriguez. But the sheriff's office is saying little about the operation; however, the agency does not deny this is related to the Gorenberg case.

Gorenberg was last scene at the Town Center Mall in Boca Raton. Someone shot and killed her. Her body dumped at the South County Civic Center. The SUV found behind Home Depot.

Recently, Boca police and the sheriff's office started working together on both the Gorenberg and the murders of Nancy and Joey Bochicchio. "I hope they find something here because it breaks my heart when I think of the murderer and what they did to these people."

The divers have a system of carefully moving over the entire pond. But the pump is only able to get the pond so low and then rain comes. Dive team members finish their search in a boat.

The dive team did find items like a laptop, wallet and credit cards. Those items are probably related to thefts but no weapons.

Previously: The investigation into one of the murders linked to the Boca Town Center Mall kicked into high gear Tuesday.

Investigators drained a pond behind the shopping center where Randi Gorenberg's SUV was dumped. That's according to our partners at the Palm Beach Post.

Dive teams actually searched the same pond last year looking for a gun but would not comment on what they are searching for Tuesday.

Gorenberg was last seen alive leaving the Town Center Mall last March.
