A New York Times editor is defending its article about John McCain's possible romantic relationship with a lobbyist.

John McCain and his wife held a news conference to refute the claims. The New York Times reported that two of McCain's former aides suspected the presidential candidate and the lobbyist were romantically involved.

McCain's wife, Cindy, says it's ludicrous. "My children and I not only trust my husband but know that he would never do anything to not only disappoint our family but disappoint the people of America. Obviously, I'm very disappointed in the article, and it's not true."

The lobbyist in question is Vicki Iseman. She also denies the allegations.

But the New York Times stands by its story.
