Updated: An American Airlines flight to Chicago has landed safely in Miami after being diverted with nose gear trouble.
Flight 862 landed at Miami International Airport at about 3:45 p.m. It had taken off from West Palm Beach but soon had trouble.
Pilots of the MD-80 jet first burned off fuel as a precaution before landing. Airport spokesman Greg Chin says there are about 130 people aboard the plane.
Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen says the situation is not routine, but also says that "crews are well trained to handle these situations."
Bergen says the problem is either with the nose gear or its door.
