A father accused of throwing his infant son into a canal and leaving him there to die has been sentenced to 40 years in prison.
Charles Tyson pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and will receive credit for the nearly two years he has spent in the Palm Beach County Jail awaiting trial.
Prosecutors had been seeking the death penalty for the 22-year-old man on charges of first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse.
Police say Tyson tossed Charles Tyson Junior from a car, slammed the nine-month-old baby onto the vehicle's hood and then threw him into a canal in April 2006.
The name of Tyson's attorney was not known.
