Firefighter laid to rest

UPDATED 3/7/08

Michele vasquez, wife of slain firefighter Lt. Ray Vasquez, addressed the media Thursday talking about how great a father her husband was.

"All he did was give and he never asked for anything in return," she said.  "I already knew this but as more and more people come to my house it seems to be a statement that they tell me over and over and over. Every time we called him he came and he never called us for anything"

A funeral with full honors for Lieutenant Vazquez takes place this morning at 11 a.m. at the Cruzan Amphitheatre in suburban West Palmbeach.

The funeral will be followed by a procession to the Dorsey-E Earl Smith Memory Gardens in Lake Worth.  Drivers should be aware, there will be traffic leading up to the funeral and intermittent road closures between the ampitheatre and the memory gardens for the procession.

It will be happening between 12:30 and 3:30p.m., so avoid the area if you can.

Also, Friday night at 7pm, a memorial concert will take place at City Place in Down Town West Palm Beach. All proceeds will be donated to Lt. Vasquez's memorial fund.
