Teen lies about rape, abduction to skip school

A shocking twist in a girl's story of abduction and sexual assault in Riviera Beach.

It turns out the Riviera Beach teen, who claimed three men abducted her from a bus stop and raped her, lied to skip school.

The 16-year-old Palm Beach Gardens High School student who picks up the bus in Riviera Beach has been arrested and charged with misdemeanor charges after admitting her terrifying claims were part of a hoax.

Police are mad and so are residents who feared sexual predators were now hanging around area bus stops.

Last week, the teen told police she was abducted at gunpoint at her bus stop, sexually assaulted by masked men for hours, and then thrown out of the car. It turns out that never happened, in fact, she says, she made the lies up because she didn't want to get in trouble for skipping school to spend time with her boyfriend.

Her elaborate story sparked a state wide manhunt that cost thousands of dollars, and many people in the community are angry after spending days praying for the girl and her family.

The lies unraveled after police intercepted a text message from the girl to a friend saying she wouldn't make it on the bus and would be late to school because she wanted to see her boyfriend.  Police confronted her about it and she reportedly confessed.
