Delray pet owner discovers dog hanging from fence

An investigation is now underway following a stunning case of animal abuse.

Police in Delray are trying to figure out who killed a family's beloved pet who was found hanging from a fence.

The dog owner, Georgia Poindexter, tells Fox 29 when she got home from work on Friday, she discovered her beloved dog, Dixie, hanging from a red leash on a chain-link fence. "My daughter found me in the alleyway; I could not get up."

She got the animal from animal care and control when she was just a puppy. "She looked at me through the fence and was like 'take me home.'"

Although, recently, Dixie was being kept in a fenced yard with two other dogs. But, according to Poindexter, she was the only canine found hanging from the fence line. "My dog was hanging from her collar, and she had been dead for quite a few hours."

Poindexter says she fears someone is targeting her and took it out on her innocent dog. Animal owners in the neighborhood are still keeping a close eye on all their pets.

Meanwhile, Poindexter is trying to cope with the loss of her closest companion. "She was the sweetest dog in the world."
