Police: Secretary stole $100K from Jensen Beach church

Reporter: Allison Bybee

Police say she stole $100,000 from a church all to pay for her car and past crimes.

Jensen Beach's All Saints Episcopal Church is recovering from a crime. "I think one of the first things we noticed was when we went to give out scholarship from the scholarship fund, it was overdrawn."

Someone stole more than $100,000 from the church's bank account. Martin County Deputies say it was the church's secretary, Christina Neilson. "They found these CC that were used in the church's name to charge a lot of personal things. She was paying restitution for a former crime using church funds."

"She was very well like and a very warm, person, so it was pretty much a shocked when they found out."

While the crime happened five months ago, just last week, her charges were upped in Martin County. Her bail now sits at more than $1 million.

Father Frisby couldn't talk directly about Neilson. He did tell us what makes his church strong. "I think it's the intimacy of the congregation."

Church officials say the church truly pulled together in the face of adversity and are now stronger than ever. Since this has all happened, they have changed the way they do their books.

They continue to put Christina Neilson on their prayer list as she remains in the Martin County Jail.
