Cemetery accused of desecrating graves is rededicated

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A West Palm Beach cemetery accused of desecrating graves and mishandling burials has been renamed in a rededication ceremony.

Menorah Gardens became Star of David Cemetery of the Palm Beaches during a ceremony yesterday. The rededication was part of a $100 million settlement.

Families sued Menorah Gardens and Houston-based Service Corporation International in December 2001. The families said cemetery managers oversold and misplaced plots and dug up and scattered remains to make room for others.
