LAKE WORTH, FL (WFLX) - A woman on an early morning walk finds a body floating in a local canal. It happened near Florida Mango and 10th Avenue North near Lake Worth.

The victim is 39-year-old Wendy Dunn. Authorities say she's homeless.

It was early in the morning when two people were crossing a bridge in Lake Worth. When they looked into the canal, they made a gruesome discovery.

"I thought it was a coconut floating. I was just walking by to go home. First, we thought it was a tree or something like that. Then, we saw the belt and the rest of the body," one woman describes.

It was a body of a woman found floating inside the E4 or Keller Canal in Lake Worth.

Barbara, who did not want to tell us her last name, could not contain her grief when she found out it was her friend. "She's a good person. I love her you know. You can't ask for a better person. And it just destroyed me to see that."

Lt. Marcos Martinez, Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, says, "It's not a natural occurrence, obviously, to find a body floating in a canal, but it doesn't necessarily mean it's a homicide. It could be a natural death of someone that has a medical condition."

And, according to those who knew her, she suffered from periodic seizures. But the exact cause of death will remain a mystery until the autopsy is complete.
