Miami-Dade officer recovering from gunfight: Teen killed

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, FL (AP) - A teen has been charged for his role in a shooting that left a Miami-Dade County police officer injured and the suspect's accomplice dead.

An arrest report says 17-year-old Kharl-Henry Lebrun is charged with second-degree felony murder, attempted murder of a police officer, shooting a police dog and attempted armed burglary.

Officer David Carrero was shot Sunday when the suspects opened fire at him and other officers at a home in North Miami Beach. Carrero was shot three times and remains in good condition in the hospital.

Police fatally shot 18-year-old Giovanni Thermidor in the melee.

Lebrun told police he and Thermidor had broken into three homes armed with a crowbar and a gun.
