Deputies remind drivers to move over

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (Fox 29) - This week deputies will be patrolling the streets reminding drivers to move over.

If you see an officer or emergency vehicle, pull off to the side. By law, you have to either slow down 20 miles per hour or move to the next lane.  This is a requirement stated by the Move Over Act of 2003.

Not everyone is following the rules of the road.

"I've had several near misses. I've had incidents where I was going back to my patrol car, getting in and another car coming at a high rate of speed, just comes right past me. I've had to jump out of the way behind the car. I've had one almost take the door right off my hinges. I've had a few close calls," says Sgt. Karl Nelson, Martin County Sheriff's Office.
