Famed comedian dies of heart failure

HOLLYWOOD, CA (Fox 29) - Comic legend George Carlin died of heart failure at a California hospital on Sunday.

Carlin had a history of cardiac trouble, his publicist says he went into a Santa Monica hospital complaining of chest pains. He died hours later.

The Grammy winning comedian, actor and author was most known for his edgy and provocative material. He achieved status as an anti-establishment icon in the 1970s, with stand up bits full of drug references, even a routine about seven dirty words you just can't say on television.

Just last week it was announced he received the 11th annual Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. He is survived by his wife, Sally and daughter, Kelly.
