FL inmate donates reward money to charity

BRADENTON, FL (AP) - A prison inmate who gave key testimony that led to a conviction in a Manatee County murder donated his $3,000 reward to charity.

Manatee County Crime Stoppers Executive Director Frank Brunner said Sunday the inmate stepped forward after seeing information about the unsolved murder on a deck of cold-case playing cards distributed in prison.

The man recalled hearing Brian Curry talk in jail about the 2004 slaying of his girlfriend. He provided information that led to Curry's arrest and then testified against him at trial.

The inmate - whose name was not disclosed for his own safety - refused to take the reward money and told a detective he wanted to donate it to charity in the name of the murder victim.
