Police union fights school board

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (Fox 29) - The police unit is gearing up for a fight targeting four Palm Beach County school board members up for reelection.

The weapon is a billboard that will be driven all over the county starting today. The billboard reads, "we need change in the school board, pay no attention to the man behind the curtain." It depicts the superintendent Dr. Art Johnson as the puppet master controlling four school board members. Those members are Monroe Benaim, Paulette Burdick, Carrie Hill, and Mark Hansen.

They're all up for reelection in August, but the police union wants them out because all four voted against giving school police officers a 5% raise.

John Kazanjian of the P.B.C. Police Benevolent Association said, "they're not doing their job and we need accountability." He claims, "they can't do their job, they don't support us, we don't support them and we need some new faces in there. That's the message we're trying to get out."

Voters go to the polls August 26th to vote in the school board races. Fox 29 has been trying to get in touch with the school board members but haven't been successful so far.
