POMPANO BEACH, FL (WFLX) - Get ready: The Atlantic Ocean is about to get rowdy!
Bryan Broeman, Extreme Events, said, "What we're doing is putting on the 2008 Watercraft Challenge August 16. We've opened up the races for stock classes, professionals and armatures alike."
For most folks, going out on a waverunner is a leisurely activity; however, that's not case here. "What we've done is set up a course from Pompano Beach to the Yankee Clipper down in Ft. Lauderdale."
The race takes place on a 36-mile circular course, and we're going to test the waters.
The waverunners, from RIVA, are made to race. I kept my speed at about 20 mph, but the professionals will be racing at speeds between 85 to 90 miles per hour!
The pros come from all over. "We're fortunate enough to have people coming in from the Cayman Islands, Dubai, West Palm Beach, Ft. Lauderdale and the Keys."
After a few spins around the boat, the big question is am I ready for the Extreme WaterCraft Challenge? And with first place taking home $1,500, I'm ready to leave my challengers in the dust... I mean waves.
Our boat captain, Russell Main of Extreme Events, is the only one brave enough to challenge me. He didn't think I could keep up, but I always beat the boys!
