**If your child was a patient of Dr. Rodriguez, you may call Sgt. Strivelli at 561.688.3810 for their medical records.**
WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) - A local pediatrician did not know he was the focus of an intense investigation for months. But video shows the doctor writing a prescription to an undercover deputy.
Some patients came from as far away as Kentucky - adults looking for powerful painkillers.
Authorities say Dr. Sergio Rodriguez, a pediatrician, obliged writing prescriptions for people he never examined. "The doctor didn't give any type of medical examination, and the doctor proscribed Methadone, Oxycodan and Xanax," said an official.
He thought it was for a patient, but the person was really an undercover agent. Local, state and federal authorities had been investigating for eight months.
On Wednesday, Rodriguez was arrested. His office closed, and employees told to go home.
While that employee may have been in the dark, people who work nearby may have had their suspicions all year long.
Investigators not only called away documents from Rodriguez's Dixie Highway office, but they were also collecting records down the street at the Tru Value Pharmacy.
"What we are concerned about really is the number of deaths due to pain medication being prescribed by doctors, and we are trying to link whatever doctors, whatever patients, whatever overdose deaths and more pharmacies that may be involved," said an official.
If police are right, Dr. Rodriguez has been helping adults get powerful painkillers while he maintained his pediatric practice at Children Plus Health Group.
For now, those children will have to find another doctor.
