WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) - We've got the scoop on the so called "pooper scooper law".

The city of West Palm Beach passed it after neighbors created a big stink pointing out people are not picking up after their pets.

In West Palm Beach it doesn't matter if you're walking a little dog or two big dogs, you now have to roll up your sleeves and clean up their dirty work.

"I always have one... It's one of the uses of the Palm Beach Post in the morning." Beverly Snow is always prepared walking Sam and Betsy carrying a bag to carry away the deed.

But not everyone is so kind. "There is a lot of dog poop right on the sidewalks on the grass as well," says one resident.

And that's why the mayor and city council decided to smack people with fines of up to $500 for not cleaning up.

"Be a good neighbor, take dogs for a walk, bring plastic bags, and clean up the poop."

It sounds simple: Fine people for not making number two their number one priority.

Meghan Eggar agrees with hefty fines saying it's the only way her streets will be spick-n-span. "I don't think a lot people really pay attention to those things, and they should, and this will force people to up after their dogs."

So the next time your dog starts giving you those clues, be ready to scoop it up or you'll have to shell it out, and that stinks!

Cat owners you're not off the hook. According to the new law, you too could be fined if your cat decides to use you neighbors flower bed as a litter box.
