VERO BEACH, FL (WFLX) - On Saturday, the owner of a ranch in Vero Beach found the remains of one of his cows that had been shot and butchered.

Police quickly tracked the cow's blood trail to the home of Caleb Smith, 21, where they also found a car with the cow's remains and more blood. Anthony Strickland, 25, and John Richmond,18, were also arrested after the three men admitted to killing the cow. According to police, they killed the cow and dumped the parts they didn't want into a local canal.

Smith, Strickland and Richmond were all arrested and charged with grand theft, trespassing, disposal of a dead animal, killing of cattle and breaking a fence with livestock.

The men were booked into the Indian River County Jail.
