PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (WFLX) - Local animal shelter Paws-2-Help has always been a charity on a mission; on Friday, they became a charity on deadline.

The suburban West Palm Beach shelter was served with an eviction notice Thursday notifying them they must vacate the property by Saturday.

"This came as a... bolt of lightning," said founder Eve Van Engel in a statement, "making us scramble to rearrange our plans to move our trailers and last of the items from Westgate premises."

The shelter was told at a code enforcement hearing on August 6th that they would have 90 days until they would be forced from their land. The problem stems from the fact that the non-profit shelter is located on land zoned residential, not commercial.

"Where is the compassion?" Engel asked, adding that she fears that the property owner may change the locks on the building before the shelter can complete a scheduled Saturday clinic and move all their equipment.

The shelter, which was founded in 1993, has operated in the same location since 2006. Officials said in August that they were planning to build a new facility on land they recently purchased, but the new building isn't expected to be complete until 2009.
