WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) - Dr. Arthur Anderson hasn't been running the office day-to-day for some time. Now, we have the reason.

He has cancer - a type of cancer that attacks his bone marrow and blood, and it is not curable.

Fox 29 has been following this story throughout the day trying to find out what this means for your vote come November 4th.

Wednesday was a rocky day for the supervisor of elections office. First, Dr. Anderson's wife announces the supervisor has bone marrow cancer. "It's a great challenge, and I've had to look for inner strength."

Then, we find out the secretary of state has recommended that Assistant County Administrator Brad Merriman be deputized as an election worker. "That is a possibility we are looking into that."

But, then, in a statement, Dr. Anderson said "I will continue to work until the end of my term as I seek treatment."

One county commissioner says these are very mixed messages. "We gotta do it the right way, and go through the right protocols."

Robert Kanjian says his deepest sympathies are with Dr Anderson, but he wants to know who will be running this office during this pivotal election, and perhaps when Anderson is out sick like he has been over the past two months. "We have to have a good election, and procedures need to be put in place to make sure no one can question this election."

Dr. Anderson was not at Wednesday's news conference. We asked his wife if he can't be here today, how can he run this office? "He will be here, and he will continue contacts daily."
