LAKE WORTH (AP) - Five people, including at least two children, are dead and three people in the hospital after a solo car crash on Florida's Turnpike.

Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Jorge Delahoz says the vehicle rolled over in the southbound lanes of the turnpike just south of Southern Boulevard around 11:30 p.m. Friday.

The car, a 2000 Ford Expedition, was carrying three women and five children. FHP says the car's left rear tire blew up, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle came to rest in a canal on the side of the road.

The group was heading to Fort Lauderdale from Orlando.

The condition of the three people taken to Delray Medical Center was unknown.
