PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL (WFLX) - Another bombshell dropped on Congressman Tim Mahoney. His wife of nearly 24 years hands over divorce papers, and she's not walking away quietly either. She wants to make sure her unfaithful husband pays.

"I'm taking things day by day." That was Congressman Tim Mahoney on Friday.

On Monday, he's taking it one day at a time, and he's still getting bad news. This time, from his wife - serving him divorce papers after making the stung admission to Fox 29's Jana Eschbach.

Jana: "Let's come clean if you are going to finish. How many affairs, and why would you - in a public position as a married man - behave that way?"

Mahoney: "I have had multiple affairs. You do something like that, and it's stupid, especially when you live in a glass house."

At first, it appeared she would stand by her man. She was by his side last Tuesday as her husband addressed the public.

On Friday, he admitted to Jana, "The answer is I have to change. If I want my daughter to respect me, I have got to change. If I want my wife to love me and stay in this marriage, I have got to change, and if I don't, I'm going to lose the most important thing."

Mahoney has 20 days to respond to his wife's filing for the divorce, and that will be after Election Day.

So far, Mahoney is staying quiet as the Congress Mall office has no comment, and his campaign office isn't saying anything either.

We got a hold of the divorce papers, and the timing is not the only thing hurting the freshman congressman, but, in the end, his bank account could be hurting, as well.

When Terry Mahoney walked out on Tuesday, it was obvious she was distraught. On Monday, it appears she may be angry.

In the documents, this statement if found: "The marriage between the parties is irrevocable broken".

Congressman Tim Mahoney contends. "I haven't violated my oath of office."

But, he has broken the trust of his wife. After nearly a quarter century of marriage, she's making sure she will be taken care of. Terry Mahoney is asking for:

  • Their PGA National home worth $571,000
  • Exclusive use of all the belongings inside
  • An unnamed amount of alimony
  • Her attorney fees paid for
  • Medical and dental insurance
  • Her to become the irrevocable beneficiary
  • Reimbursed for insurance for anything Tim Mahoney paid out that she did not know about and that includes the $121,000 paid to this woman to keep her quiet after her affair.

Mahoney admitted to us Friday he made a mistake. "People look to me to represent at a higher level. And I failed them personally, and I recognize that."

The big question will be if the divorce judge recognizes that, and Terry Mahoney is also asking for, 'other relief to the wife'.

Tim Mahoney received the bad news Monday. He has 20 days to respond to the court which happens to be five days after Election Day.
