WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) - A 6th grader slashed at school on the bus: It happened at Bear Lakes Middle School. The cut is not that serious, but his mother's request for more security is serious.

A slice so deep it needed seven stitches. "Very scary - didn't know what to do."

Shalonda Harvey got the call at work about her son's cut Tuesday. Twelve-year-old Eric says another student cut him on the school bus with some sort of blade or knife.

We asked him why? "I don't know. She just doesn't like me."

The bus was still parked at school and about to take kids home.

Shalonda rushed there. "When I got to school, he was bandaged, so I couldn't really see what happened."

School district police are investigating the incident. A district spokesperson tells us the accused attacker is 13 years old and taken out of school.

Eric's mom is sending him back to school Monday. "I don't want him to go back, but I also don't want him to miss out on his education."

Eric doesn't want to go back either. "If she's there, she may try to hurt me again."

Shalonda says there is one school resource officer, and judging by what happened to her son, she doesn't think that's enough. "They need more security around the school. If 6th and 7th graders are fighting, they need security. He is always coming home crying telling me he is getting bullied."

We tried to catch up with Palm Beach District spokesperson Wednesday night to ask some follow-up questions about security. But our calls were not returned.

He did tell us earlier, the teen accused of cutting Eric Harvey is kicked out of school - at least until the investigation wraps up.
