Dumpster Dog Abused

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) - Investigators say a dog found in a dumpster near West Palm Beach Friday may have been abused, not accidentally hit by a car as first thought.

They say they have identified a "person of interest", But they won't release any further details.

The adult terrier, a male about one year old, was found Friday afternoon in a dumpster near Haverhill Road and Stacy Street.

The badly-injured dog was in a plastic trash bag, still alive, along with beer cans, cigarette butts and fast-food receipts.

An official said since the dog was found Friday they've had dozens of calls from people who would like to adopt him. However, he will be in a shelter for weeks or months.

He has a skull fracture, swollen neck, a severe eye injury, and drifts in and out of consciousness.

They give him a 50-50 chance of survival.
