Family Begs for Speed Bump

By Ashley Glass email

Lake Worth, FL (WFLX) - A Lake Worth family is begging for a speed bump on the block where their elderly loved one was recently killed in a hit-and-run.  That's at the intersection of B and 1st street in Lake Worth.

We checked in with city leaders on the issue.  Public Services Director Joe Kroll says, those neighbors need to start a petition, and get a majority of neighbors to sign it.  Then, the measure has to be approved by fire, police and commissioners.  Plus, Kroll says it's a budget issue since a speed bump can cost up to $5,000.  Kroll says the process could take a year or more.

Brooke Henzle's mother-in-law was killed in the hit-and-run near B and 1st Streets.  She says, "I'm not willing to be patient and wait a year because something should have been done a long time ago."

Brooke Henzel adds, once the funeral is held for her mother-in-law, 72-year-old Phyllis Henzel, she will get started on that petition and plans to knock on local business's doors and ask for donations to put in speed bumps.
