Improved Lake Worth pier near completion

By Ashley Glass email

LAKE WORTH, FL (WFLX) - Repairs are wrapping up on a historic pier in Lake Worth. The William Lockhart Pier has been shut down since 2004 because of storm damage, but now city leaders have their sights set on a spring re-opening.

Workers are finishing up electrical work, including putting in "turtle friendly" lighting and sun canopies. Once that's done and the Department of Environmental Protection gives the "okay", city leaders expect a re-opening in April.

Fisherman like Bill Sydow are anxious. "A lot of people are looking forward to this. It's a get-a-way with everything going on in the economy and the world, people need to get away and fish."

When it re-opens, it will cost $1 for a day on the pier which has been a landmark for more than 50 years.
