Blagojevich gets the boot

Posted by Rachel Leigh email

CHICAGO (WFLX) - The new governor of Illinois plans a news conference Friday and will likely address the removal of Rod Blagojevich from office.

UPDATE, FRI 10:30 AM: The state Senate voted 59-0 to oust Blagojevich Thursday, and Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn was immediately sworn in as governor. Quinn said Thursday the state is ready to put the scandal behind it.

Meantime, the chairman of Illinois' Republican Party says state Democrats owe the people of Illinois an apology.

Andy McKenna says Democrats are leading the state in the wrong direction.

State records show that Blagojevich could still qualify for a pension of about $64,000, but it's not a sure thing.

Retirees must apply for pensions and the State Employee Retirement System can deny the request.

There's also the issue of Blagojevich's arrest on federal corruption charges. An indictment may be pending.
