Peanuts from 'Peanut Corp' not fit for human consumption

(WFLX) - Publix recalls one if it's products amid the salmonella outbreak.

It pulled all Publix round top sundae cones off the shelves. The cones have a chopped peanut garnish, so Publix decided to recall the item just to be safe.

Across the nation, more than 430 kinds of cakes, cookies and other goods have been pulled off store shelves.

We now know, there was a warning sign that peanuts from "Peanut Corp" in Georgia weren't fit for human consumption weeks before people started becoming sick and dying.

A shipment of peanuts exported to Canada was rejected after they were found to be contaminated.

A September Food and Drug Administration report says the peanuts contained an unspecified "filthy, putrid or decomposed substance". It's not clear what ultimately happened to that shipment.

FDA inspectors who went out to the plant after the outbreak reported they found roaches, mold and other sanitation issues.
