Outrage over State Farm decision

By Chuck Weber email

LAKE WORTH, FL (WFLX)-A backlash against State Farm Insurance is growing, following the company's announcement it will drop all Florida property policies over the next two years.

"Yeah I was outraged, shocked," said Dennis Damaso. "A complete reversal of what State Farm stood for."

The West Lake Worth homeowner says he's been with State Farm for more than 30 years. Friday Damaso spread out on a table all 11 policies he currently has with the company-- policies covering his home, rental properties, and all his family's cars.

What really ticks off Damaso is the fact State Farm will continue to write car insurance policies. Damaso told the company his feelings in a letter addressed to the President of State Farm Florida.

Damaso writes, "to maintain your sale of auto insurance without providing homeowners insurance... is CRIMINAL. You are not my GOOD NEIGHBOR, but a greedy company," a play on State Farm's famous advertising slogan.

Damaso also wrote he intends to look for a new company to cover his cars, and urge people to boycott State Farm.

"Their image, the good neighbor image," Damaso told Fox 29, "They should drop that just as well as dropping these homeowners policies."

State Farm spokesman Chris Neal responded to Damaso in an email to Fox 29. "We understand your frustration," said Neal. "We tried everything to avoid this decision. Any further weakening could prevent us from honoring our obligations to our customers"-- a reference to the company's assertion the state doesn't allow it to charge enough.
